 Avid initiates ‘New Thinking’ campaign

 Mar 24, 2008
  by GV staff
Last week, Avid Technology’s Video division announced the first phase of its “New Thinking” campaign, which included a major price reduction in Media Composer and the end of Xpress Pro.
The company will continue to sell Xpress Pro through Q2 2008, and will offer support into 2013, but will not offer any further software upgrades. Existing customers can upgrade to Media Composer for $495. Avid has also reduced the price of Media Composer by half to $2,495.
Avid is also offering student pricing for Media Composer software, enhanced online customer support, and an enhanced online community, which includes a new interface, industry and Avid-authored blogs, and customer-submitted tips and tutorials. Over the next few months, Avid plans to add a video exchange, community portfolios and social networking, a blog network, and a job marketplace to its online community.
While Avid will not be exhibiting at the 2008 NAB Show next month, the company has planned customers meetings, focus groups, and appreciation events in Las Vegas during the same week of the show.
According to Avid, the campaign is based on extensive customer feedback and revolves around four main objectives: increasing the value of its products, workflows, and services; advancing technical and customer support programs; investing in the community of media professionals; and fostering an open, two-way dialogue with customers. Kirk Arnold, executive vice president and general manager of Avid Video, said “New Thinking” is the start of a longer-term effort to re-connect with customers and restore their confidence.
