Tennessee-based WCTE, a PBS member station, recently selected the Elite-1000 UHF liquid cooled DTV transmitter from Thomson Grass Valley to help it make the switch from analog to digital.
“We studied several bids for solid state transmission systems, both air and water cooled transmitters, and selected Thomson for their transmitter design. The flexibility of Thomson's systems, ease of installation, servicing, and operating cost reductions were all key factors in our choice," said Wayne Rosberg consultant for WCTE.
The Elite-1000 series features liquid cooling of the amplifiers, power supplies, and internal RF loads for maximum heat transfer away from the transmitter system. It also incorporates a 1:1 power supply/power amplifier configuration, exciter redundancy, and a system controller for maximum redundancy and high on-air availability.
The Elite series is compatible with all digital transmission standards and incorporates Thomson's Optiphase technology. The station plans to purchase another Elite system, it said.
